For the safety of our students and staff, school will start 2-hours late with AM snow routes (limited transportation). No out of district transportation, no preschool or ECEAP for students, no morning Sno-Isle transportation. Buses will pick students up two hours later than their normal morning bus stop time with limited access to some areas. Go to www.msd25.org -select Departments/Transportation to view limited transportation information. School will dismiss at the normal dismissal time. Freezing temperatures and compact snow and ice have created treacherous conditions on roads, sidewalks and in parking lots. Please use care and caution.

Windy weather advisory! It's almost Thanksgiving and that means windstorms. PUD and PSE have announced the potential for high winds this afternoon, which could cause downed trees and power outages. This may be especially problematic for elementary schools with bus routes in heavily treed areas. In the event a bus cannot safely transport students home due to downed trees or power lines and your bus is delayed, re-routed or returned to school, a SchoolMessenger message will go out from the district office to keep you informed. Thank you for joining us in keeping our students staff this fall and winter!

Did you know? In 2015, Congress passed a new federal education law called the Every Student Succeeds Act. This Act works to shine light on performance gaps between student groups that persist in our schools. In our state, the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) is responsible for implementing this law. Washington’s ESSA Plan outlines initiatives to attract and retain effective educators, especially for students of color and low-income students. Learn more at k12.wa.us/ESSA.

A bystander is someone who sees bullying happening and chooses to react by laughing, giggling, pointing, staring, doing nothing, whispering to other people about it or gossiping about it. They might play 'the messenger' between bully and victim, spread rumors they have heard or join in when a bully is ignoring or excluding someone. Or a bystander might 'like' or favorite a mean post on Facebook, Instagram or other social media site. Being a bystander is like saying YOU agree with the bully. Not cool. The Snohomish County Juvenille Court staff are presenting a training on motivational interviewing. Due to the participatory nature of this training each session will be limited to 25 people. Please RSVP to Sara Bolton at sarah.bolton@snoco.org Motivational Interviewing is a style of conversation that focuses on empathy, support, and collaboration to develop motivation to change undesirable behaviors (such as truancy). It places a strong emphasis on engaging the person, focusing on the cause of the problem, evoking 'change talk', and making a plan to address the identified causes of the problem. School personnel and community members involved in the truancy process who want to learn about motivational interviewing are invited.

Due to poor air quality and out of an abundance of caution, elementary schools will have indoor recess today. Middle and high school students should avoid strenuous activity outside. Health Room Assistants have been directed to report any breathing difficulty to school administration and follow normal protocols. Greg Erickson, district athletic director, is continuing to monitor air quality throughout the day and will notify athletic staff regarding after school practices and competitions.
