SUMMER SUCCESS READING PROGRAM

FOR Kindergarten - FOURTH (4TH) GRADERS

Who Qualifies?

  • Current Kindergarten through fourth (4th) graders who need an extra boost to reach grade level in reading, gauged by the Fontas & Pinnell benchmark and STAR Assessment

When and Where?

  • Monday through Thursday—July 23 - August 16, 2018
  • Classes will be held at two schools: Cascade & Liberty
  • School schedules will be as follows:
    • Class: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
    • Lunch: 2 p.m.
    • Dismissal: 12:30 p.m.

What site will my child attend?

  • Students who regularly attend Cascade, Shoultes, Pinewood, Kellogg Marsh, Marshall, and Marshall CoOp will go to Cascade.
  • Students who regularly attend Liberty, Sunnyside, Grove, Allen Creek, Quil Ceda Tulalip will go to Liberty.
  • If you currently reside outside of the district boundaries, transportation to summer school will be the family’s responsibility.

What does it cost?

  • Summer Reading Success Program is free for parents, paid through state and federal grants.

What about meals and transportation?

  • Breakfast and lunch are included for all students.
  • If assigned school is not within walking distance from your home - transportation will be provided.

What will my child do each day?

Summer Reading Success is focused on developing reading and writing skills. Instruction will include daily lessons in small groups, shared reading with the teacher, and computer-based learning. Lessons will be fun and engaging!

Why should my child attend?

Your child will receive 45 hours of small group, focused instruction in reading and writing. We know that reading proficiently by fourth grade is crititcal to students’ on-going academic success. Your child will have fun learning and exploring!

How do I register? When are registration forms due?

  • Complete the enclosed registration form and return it to your local school office by May 14. Space is limited – get your registration in right away!

    • Class: 8:30 - 11:30 a.m.
    • Lunch: 11:30 a.m.
    • Dismissal: 12 p.m. from Liberty Elementary
  • If you currently reside outside of the district boundaries, transportation to summer school will be the family’s responsibility.

21st Century Summer school program

Who Qualifies? 
This is an extension of the school year program for students that are currently enrolled.

Dates: June 25 - July 19 
Monday - Thursday
*No school July 4

Times: 9 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Lunch @ 12:30 p.m. 
Buses Load at 1:25 p.m.

Who Qualifies?

Only open to Grove Elementary ELL students

Dates: July 16 - August 9
Monday - Thursday

Times: 9 - 11:45 a.m.

No meal service

Who Qualifies? Students in grades 1 through 4 and incoming 6th graders who have been invited and/or recommended by school

Breakfast @ 8:30 a.m. (MMS) 9 a.m. (Elementary)
Lunch @ 11:45 a.m. 
Buses load and depart at noon

Marysville Middle School: 4923 67th St NE, Marysville, WA 98270 (Incoming 6th Graders)
11:30 a.m. students will walk with staff to Liberty Elementary for lunch and buses will depart to take students home from this location.

Who Qualifies? Students attend based off Individual Education Plan (IEP)

Times: 9 a.m. - noon (Kellogg Marsh) 8 a.m. - noon (Cedarcrest & MPHS) 
Buses load at noon

High School: Summer Extended Learning Program

Registration Information
Forms available May 9 in middle/high school offices
Registration forms due back to your home school by June 14

Courses available for retrieval (Grades 9 - 12): English, Math, Science, PE, Social Studies

Available for retrieval (Grade 8): WA State History

Cost: $125 for grades 9-10 (Science, PE, Social Studies) and grade 8 (WA State History)

Available free of charge: Grades 11 - 12 (All courses) and 9-10 (Math and English only)

Breakfast and lunch will be provided at no cost. 
Transportation is NOT provided for summer credit retrieval
