This document was modified from the LASW HML Protocol developed by Washington State ESDs. It was used during the 2015-2016 school year to guide teachers in analyzing work from the engineering modules they developed and assessing the success of the module.
This document serves as a template for teachers to develop the engineering based module. It is designed to help facilitate teachers incorporating the 3 dimensions of NGSS while also attending to the elements of the engineering process in the NGSS.
As a result of trying to reduce the number of days teachers are out of the classroom the Grant Leadership Team developed a new protocol with guidance from the OEL process previously used. The result is the "MSVL NGSS Lab_Protocol for 2016-17" which has teachers meeting together for session 1. Session 2 the teachers will complete individually on their own or with colleagues to video tape a portion of the lesson, analyze and reflect using the video for evidence of student learning. During session 3 the teachers will meet together as a PLC for 2 hours to debrief the lesson and determine next steps.
