COVID-10 Update, March 26, 2020

We continue to monitor this ever-evolving state of affairs closely. With our staff and community partners working together across the district we are able to check off the boxes mandated by the Governor which include providing meals for students, childcare for first-responders, healthcare workers, and learning opportunities for students.

The Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) provided new guidance on what instruction and learning should look like during the extended school closure. Although schools are closed and are not providing traditional in-school instruction, education must continue. OSPI’s update provides an important change to our current approach to learning opportunities.

We have been providing Learning Enrichment and Resources for families on the district website (http://marysvillewa.apptegy.us/o/district/page/covid-19-learning-resource-page) which will continue. Moving forward, we are being asked to increase the level of instruction and support for all students with Guiding Principles in the following areas:

  • Keep Students at the Center

  • Design Learning for Equity and Access

  • Assess Student Learning

We are working at the district and building levels to identify ways to implement this instruction and support for students in Preschool through grade 12. The instruction and support are expected to begin after Spring Break (April 6 through April 10). Stay tuned for further communication.

It is important to note that our bus meal service will continue during the break. The schedule for each neighborhood area can be accessed here https://bit.ly/MSDMealService.

Today we held the second Chromebook deployment for K - 5, handed out school supplies and hygiene kits. It was great to see some of our families during this time. The drive-up model allowed us to provide the needed items while maintaining social distancing practices.

In the coming days, we will be sharing more information on the new learning opportunities. I mentioned in yesterday’s update, emails are being sent throughout the week.  Letters were mailed to the homes of K-5 students which included log-in information and Clever Badges. This information will allow students to log-in to their district Chromebooks.

For those students or families who need Chromebook support, we have set up a Chromebook Support hotline you may call at (360) 965-0202 and a designated Chromebook support email address at chromebook-help@msvl.k12.wa.us

Please take good care, stay safe and healthy.
