Marysville-Pilchuck High School Drama Club is presenting the Washington State High School Premiere of the new musical “Disney’s Freaky Friday” based on the 1972 novel by Mary Rodgers and the hit Disney films. Developed by Disney Theatrical Productions, the play features a book by Bridget Carpenter-the co-executive producer and writer on the beloved TV hits, “Friday Night Lights” and “Parenthood” and music and lyrics by Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey- the Pulitzer Prize-winning composers of “Next to Normal” and “If/Then.”
M-P’s production features a mix of M-P and M-G students with Julia Miranda and Angela Ferguson playing the roles of an overworked mother and her teenage daughter who magically swap bodies. They have just one day to put things right again in this heartfelt, comedic and unexpectedly emotional update on the classic story. By spending a day in each other’s shoes, they come to appreciate one another’s struggles, learn self-acceptance, and realize the immeasurable love and mutual respect that bond a mother and daughter.
Also in the cast are Kris Lawler, Rylee Worth, Veronika Gardulski, Angelina Nguyen, Morgan Reed, Nikole DuFour, Nolan Crumrine, Aiden Eberhard, Tyler Campbell, Michael Fret, Morgan Wright, Kylie Canell, Joe Wilson, Jesus German, Kaylee Balam, Lily Siron, Aislynn Reed, Paula Morales and Adrien Haug. Dozens of others students make up stage, light and sound crew. The orchestra is conducted by M-P Band teacher Gavin Knowles and the show is directed by M-P Drama teacher Roy Klementsen.
