Dear Pinewood Elementary Parents and Guardians,

As you may have heard, there was a police incident at Pinewood Elementary last night involving the death of a 15-year female, Marysville resident, previously enrolled in the Marysville School District. The Marysville Police are still investigating and reported that it does not appear to be crime-related.

We are deeply saddened by this news as it impacts our entire district and community.

Out of respect for the family regarding the loss of this young woman, we are not at liberty to provide any additional details around the incident, and we ask that you do not share information beyond what is being provided by law enforcement:

  • There was an incident that resulted in the death of 15-year female;
  • At no time were Pinewood students or staff in danger;
  • Police are continuing their investigation into this incident and again, do not believe that it is crime-related.

Your child may have questions about what has happened. Please reassure them that they are safe. We have additional supports in place at the schools directly affected by the loss of this student. If your child needs to talk to someone, counselors are ready and available.

I appreciate your continued support for our school community. School will remain on a normal schedule and we look forward to seeing your child every day.

Sincerely,

Kathy Thornton,

Principal
