Our community members may have noticed vehicles and some other recent changes at the former Marysville City Hall building, as well as the former Liberty Elementary site. Those changes are connected to the upcoming move of the MSD Service Center, which is taking place this spring and will continue through the summer.
This message is the first weekly update we intend to share with our community throughout the duration of the move.
What’s Happening
After the City of Marysville and the school district agreed to a property swap in 2024, most staff who work at the MSD Service Center on 80th Street NE are relocating to new locations this year. Many will move to the former City Hall building at 1049 State Ave in downtown Marysville. This property swap was part of the district’s overall efforts to reduce costs and improve our revenue forecast.
Because that building is smaller than our current Service Center, some programs and functions, including district surplus, operations/facilities staff, and the McKinney-Vento Connections Center, will move to the former Liberty Elementary building. Repurposing the old Liberty building was the most cost-effective option and keeps these services centrally located and accessible for our school staff and families.
Move Status
Our maintenance, warehouse, and technology teams have been hard at work over the past several months to prepare the buildings involved. That work is nearly complete, and we intend to begin moving our staff to their new worksites in early May.
Projected Timeline
The 80th Street Service Center will permanently close to the public by the end of June, and our first Board of Directors meeting at the State Avenue location will occur July 20.
Our next update will come out next Friday, April 24.
