District Receives Grant to Support Student Attendance Improvement Efforts

A grant from the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) enables schools in the Marysville School District to establish effective efforts to improve attendance.

Msvl. WA - The district is thrilled to announce a $150,000 grant from the Office of the Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) that supports district-wide efforts to improve attendance. The grant covers increasing hours for Native American, LatinX, Russian/Ukrainian, and Migrant Education Liaisons to allow them to extend their work with attendance monitoring, truancy support, and student re-engagement. It also funds an additional staff member who will support schools in developing more robust attendance monitoring and re-engagement practices. The remaining funds will fund technological support for enrollment, attendance, truancy, and transfers and provide training opportunities for staff throughout the district.

The Marysville School District is committed to ensuring students are engaged, inspired, and prepared. A crucial component is ensuring students attend school each day of the school year. We can accomplish this with the support and dedication of families and staff across the district who ensure no students are left behind by reducing absences. By addressing the holistic needs of students and creating a supportive and encouraging atmosphere, liaisons and student success advocates funded by this grant can significantly improve student attendance. They will be able to work with students to establish attendance goals and aligned plans, connect with families to address root causes, identify barriers and challenges, and much more.
