MSD Update and Information

Parents/Guardians of Students in Grades K - 12,

The Marysville School District will provide students with an Online School Option for the 2021 - 2022 school year. This option, called Marysville Online, will be classified as an Alternative Learning Experience Program, with the online curriculum provided by Edgenuity.

What will this look like for my student?

Marysville Online instruction is delivered through an online education program called Edgenuity. Enrolled students are expected to progress independently through the curriculum. Students will be assigned a Marysville School District teacher/case manager who will supervise the students’ progress and provide support as needed. Continued enrollment in this program is dependent on students making regular progress throughout the school year. This program is appropriate for students who have an adult in their home, and who are able to successfully work independently with minimal teacher support. The courses are set up for the teacher to be a case manager, with the parent or adult in the household acting as the "learning coach." Teachers/case managers will conference with students and parents, adjust lessons when applicable, and monitor the students' progress in the online modules. For parents/guardians who, for health and safety reasons, don't foresee their child(ren) returning to in-person instruction this year, this may be an appropriate option.

What are Alternative Learning Experience Programs/Courses (ALE)?

Alternative learning experience (ALE) programs/courses are programs/courses for public school students that are primarily characterized by learning activities that occur away from the regular public school classroom setting. The specific requirements and expectations of these away-from-school learning activities are detailed in a written student learning plan developed and supervised by a certificated public school teacher. In order to receive state basic education funding for ALE, a school district must comply with the ALE funding requirements detailed in WAC 392-121-182

Will my student still be enrolled in the Marysville School District if I choose this option?

Yes, they will still be enrolled in the Marysville School District.

If I choose this option, can my student still participate in athletics and extracurricular activities?

Yes, they will be able to participate in middle and high school athletics and other extracurricular school activities.

If my student qualifies for Special Education or EL Services, or Highly Capable, will they still have access to those services/programs?

Yes. You will work with their online teacher, supported by the program supervisor, to develop a plan.

If I enroll my student in online learning now, can I move them to in-person learning at any time?

There may be an option to transfer back to in-person learning but it will be on a case-by-case basis. For students in grades 9 -12, it is in their best interest to make this type of transfer at the end of a grading term.

How do I enroll my student(s)?

Interested families will need to complete the interest form now (below) for each student, and submit an application for participation in Alternative Learning Experience courses. The application will be sent after the interest form is complete.

Marysville Online Alternative Learning Experience Programs Interest Form

Families interested in enrolling in the Marysville School District online programs need to complete a short interest form* - click HERE. Please complete the form no later than August 20.

*Even if you previously completed a survey about online learning options, this is required information if you do not want your child to return to in-person instruction. If you are interested we ask that you complete this new form ASAP and no later than August 20.

If you choose for your student to attend school in person, you do not need to do anything at this time. Schools will be communicating with families after school offices reopen on August 24. The health and safety of our students, families, and staff is a top priority and all health and safety requirements will be followed.

**NOTE: For grades K-5

We had previously communicated our intent to provide a ‘synchronous’ K-5 Virtual Academy that met the State’s requirements for a full-time program; however, this program did not generate enough interest from families to make it a sustainable option.
