Dear Community,

 We understand that many people may have an interest in providing feedback to the school board on proposed amendments to Policy 2150 and Policy 2153. The presented agenda consists of a ‘second reading’ of these policies during the Regular Board Meeting. 

 Regular Board Meetings provide the public with the opportunity to provide feedback in the following ways: public comment in-person or via Zoom during the meeting, or written public comment submitted by using the Public Comment Form prior, during, or after the meeting. By written procedure, the public comment time is 30 minutes total, with each speaker allotted 3 minutes for their comments. This includes those who are commenting via Zoom during the meeting.  Policy dictates that public comment is limited to residents or employees of the school district or representatives of such residents or employees, parents/guardians of enrolled students, and employees of schools located within the district.

 The Board President may choose to temporarily suspend procedures related to the time allotted for public comment in order to allow for more speakers.  We may not be able to accommodate all speakers; therefore, we encourage community members to submit their comments in writing.  All written comments will be submitted to the school board and included in the meeting minutes. 

 As a reminder, Regular Board Meetings are board ‘business’ meetings held in a public setting. Dialogue with the public that may influence the decisions/actions of a board member is a violation of the Open Public Meetings Act. Therefore, the board cannot engage in discussion or dialogue with the public during the meeting.  If you wish to engage in a discussion about the proposed amendments to these policies, we ask that you set a meeting with the district’s interim superintendent, Dr. Chris Pearson, and/or members of the district leadership team by contacting Toni Bartley at District leaders will make every effort to meet with concerned community members before the next Regular Board Meeting scheduled for Monday, June 6th.

The Board of Directors meetings will be hosted in-person and remotely via Zoom.

 Board action and discussion is limited to previously published agenda topics (RCW 42.30).
