School Counseling Plan Created for District-wide Student Support Alignment

The Marysville School District is proud to highlight the implementation of the District’s first Comprehensive School Counseling Plan for the 2023-2024 school year.

Msvl. WA - During this school year, the Marysville School District is working to improve its counseling services as part of a Comprehensive School Counseling Plan (CSCP). The plan, led by Student Services Coordinator and Licensed Mental Health Therapist Sandra Madrigal, in partnership with counselors district-wide, addresses students' social-emotional learning, academic progression, and career development needs, following the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) model. The development of a district CSCP is mandatory under the newly adopted Washington State law, RCW 28A.320.600. The law clarifies the role of school counselors in alignment with current best practices. By aligning counseling services across the district, the CSCP provides a framework for creating safe and inclusive environments for students and implementing evidence-based, culturally responsive practices.

The district-wide plan ensures continuity of care for preschool to 12th-grade students by developing proactive support systems for diverse academic, social, and emotional needs. The Student Services team and school counselors are working tirelessly to further the mission of preparing and supporting our students in this area.
